Backing British farming

Shropshire is a rural county, and agriculture forms the backbone of the local economy in our countryside.

The Liberal Democrats are backing the NFU’s campaign to protect farmers from substandard imports, especially at a time when the cost of doing business is hitting Shropshire’s agricultural industry hard. Trade deals with Australia, New Zealand and the USA are likely to make the situation even worse for Shropshire farmers, with cheap and lower-quality produce flooding the market. The Conservatives have refused to even allow Parliament time to debate the far-ranging implications of these deals, despite pleas from Liberal Democrat MP for North Shropshire Helen Morgan.
