Chair’s report by Cllr Bernie Bentick (BB) And Tom Dainty’s Report

BB congratulated everyone on the achievements by the party at recent elections and all the hard work has paid off as we have an increased number of councillors and now in charge of the Town Council and Shropshire Council.

BB celebrated Nick Deane who has recently passed and a member of the Liberal Democrats.  Nick raised £78,000 for Motor Neuron Disease (MND) by various challenges including the Three Peaks Challenge.  Nick was very well respected and well-loved in the Shropshire Shufflers.

This was followed by a two-minute clap

Tom Dainty followed with an update on campaigning in Shropshire generally.

Treasurer’s Report

Rob Lea presented the Treasurer’s Report which was approved. The Treasurer thanked all donors and Roger Jones of Harmer Hill as auditor. The meeting agreed to reappoint Roger Jones of Harmer Hill as auditor.  BB thanked Rob Lea for his continuing hard work.

6.

Guest Speaker – Cllr Heather Kidd Leader of Shropshire Council

Heather gave an update of the position at Shropshire Council she said that they took over in May 2025.  The new cabinet needed to be looked at everything and is a huge task. They needed to stabilise the budget and invest in the organisation.  There is a lot to do to get the finances in a better position especially when there are limited staff and no chief executive currently.

7.

Shrewsbury Town Council Report – Cllr Alex Wagner

The best result in Shrewsbury but we are not being complacent and want to stay on front foot by delivering in all 17 wards in town.  Shrewsbury Town council totally different to Shropshire Council, it is well run and looking to expand what the town council do to include street cleaning, but this will result in raising taxes and employ more staff.
